Lyric Opera of Chicago announces new Ring of the Nibelung

Lyric Opera of Chicago's new Ring of the Nibelung will open in fall 2016 with Das Rheingold and continue with one opera per year, ending with three sets of the complete four-opera cycle in April 2020. This will mark British director David Pountney's first complete Ring; Music Director Sir Andrew Davis conducts. Eric Owens will sing Wotan, Christine Goerke is Brünnhilde. Pountney provided few details about his concept, although he did emphasize that Wagner wrote the four operas over a 20-year span. "It's very important to think of these as four different pieces in terms of storytelling. There will be a narrative arc, but one which recognizes the richness and diversity of the individual
